The Nigerian military has warned of possible attacks by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations in the North-East.

The warning was issued on Monday in a statement by Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the spokesman of the Headquarters, Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai.

According to the statement, intelligence reports suggest that remnants of the terrorist groups may attempt to exploit the festive period to launch attacks on civilian targets, particularly in crowded locations.

The military said potential targets could include prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, banking halls, and other densely populated areas, with suspects likely to use suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Residents were advised to avoid large gatherings where possible, and to hold Eid prayers within their neighbourhoods or familiar communities as a precautionary measure.

The statement also urged the public to remain vigilant, especially in crowded places, and to promptly report any suspicious persons, objects, or movements to security agencies.

Operation Hadin Kai further called on residents to cooperate with security personnel during patrols and screening operations, stressing that the measures are aimed at preventing attacks and ensuring safety during the festive period.
