“Four-Year Term” — Tinubu Appoints Adedayo Laniyi DG Of Maryam Babangida National Centre For Women Development

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Adedayo Laniyi as the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development for an initial term of four years.

The appointment, which takes effect from April 18, 2026, was conveyed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Ibrahim Kana.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam, the appointment was made in line with the provisions of Section 7 (1) and (3) of the National Centre for Women Development (Amendment) Act, 2023.

“President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Ms. Adedayo Benjamin Laniyi as the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development and the members of the Governing Council for an initial term of four years.

“The appointment, which takes effect from April 18, 2026, is in accordance with the provisions of Section 7 (1) and (3) of the National Centre for Women Development (Amendment) Act, 2023,” the statement partly read.

He also said the President approved the constitution of the Governing Council of the centre, with Princess Joan Jummai Idonije as chairman.

Other members of the council are Ms. Lois Auta, Hon. Jamila Sarki, Aisha Baiyee, Hon. Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, and Hon. Princess Anne Agom-Eze.

While congratulating the new Director-General and members of the Governing Council, Tinubu wished them success in their respective roles.

The Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development was established to promote women empowerment, gender equality, and socio-economic development for women across the country.

The centre serves as a national institution for research, training, and advocacy on women-related issues and programmes.
