A coalition of youths, students and stakeholders in Owo, Ondo State, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to ensure merit, fairness, and justice in the appointment of a substantive Chief Medical Director for the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo.
Addressing newsmen on behalf of groups in Ondo North Senatorial District, the convener, Amb. Ojo Eniafe, urged the president to appoint “the most competent, experienced, and qualified medical professional — one with proven administrative excellence, clinical expertise, and unblemished integrity.”
“The people of Owo deserve nothing less,” the coalition insisted.
According to them, “Tinubu had invested heavily in revitalising the health sector nationwide and asked him to make the FMC Owo appointment another example of his commitment to excellence under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Do not allow this institution to collapse. Intervene, sir, as the father of the nation,” the coalition pleaded.
“The cry and lamentation of Owo and its environs have reached your table today.”
It noted that Owo Kingdom delivered the highest number of votes for Tinubu in Ondo State during the last presidential election and remained committed to supporting his agenda.
“Through the Renewed Hope Agenda, you have laid a solid foundation for a greater Nigeria — a foundation built on competence, merit, and renewed prosperity,” the group said.
The coalition warned that the current situation at FMC Owo threatened gains in the health sector. It said the moment presented a historic opportunity for the hospital and that the community was united in demanding excellence.
“We cannot afford to miss this golden chance. If we do, history may record the institution not as a Federal Medical Centre, but as a ‘Death Medical Centre,’” the letter said.
The group stressed that its appeal was not political but about protecting lives.
“We are not here to play politics with the health and lives of our people. We are here to appeal for merit, fairness, and justice in the appointment of a substantive Chief Medical Director for FMC Owo,” it stated.
