The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested two women and a 35-year-old fish seller over an alleged attempt to engage in immoral acts in Kano.

The director of public enlightenment of the state Hisbah Board, Auwalu Sheshe, confirmed the arrest of the suspects in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended during an operation carried out at the Sheikh Muhammad Nasiru Kabara Housing Estate, popularly known as the Bandirawo Housing Estate, located along the Daura Road.

“During the raid, which was conducted under the leadership of Hafizu Garba Adakawa, officials apprehended a woman identified as Khadija Ahmad, a 30-year-old indigene of Rimi Local Government Area in Katsina State.

“The personnel also found a 35-year-old fish seller identified as Ali Abubakar, from the Kano Cooperative area, together with his female companion, Fatima Abubakar, a 28-year-old woman from Niger Republic, inside one of the rooms, allegedly preparing to engage in immoral conduct,” the statement said.

It added, “When interrogated, one of the suspects, Khadija, stated that the apartment she occupied with her children had been lent to her and that she occasionally rented out rooms in the house for prostitution in exchange for payment.

“She further explained that the woman who gave her the house had travelled to Egypt, pointing out that she was not the only person involved in such activities within the neighbourhood.

“The suspects claimed that it was their first time engaging in such an act, and promised not to repeat it and appealed for forgiveness.”

The board subsequently arraigned them before a court presided over by Malam Sani Tanimu Hausawa, located within the premises of the board.

The Kano State Hisbah Board reiterated its commitment to combating immoral activities across the state.
