According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, a former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed what he described as manipulated results emerging from the presidential primary election conducted by the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement shared through his X account on Tuesday, the former Minister of Transportation said he could not recognise or accept outcomes produced through a process that, according to him, failed to align with the principles and standards the ADC had promised Nigerians it would uphold.

Amaechi expressed concern over the credibility of the primary election, questioning how he would be expected to accept results from an exercise in which he alleged that nearly 80 per cent of party members were denied the opportunity to participate in voting.

He argued that a political party that had consistently criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over allegations of vote-buying, election manipulation, and result falsification should not be involved in similar practices capable of disenfranchising its own members.

The former Rivers governor maintained that any electoral process lacking openness, fairness, and transparency contradicts the ideals the ADC claims to represent.

He stressed that internal democratic processes must reflect the standards the party advocates publicly if it intends to position itself as an alternative to the current administration.

Amaechi further insisted that the opposition party’s commitment to addressing what he described as impunity and poor governance in the country must begin with ensuring credibility and fairness within its own structures and electoral exercises.

He said, “I had initially stated that I will only accept the outcome of the Primaries if the process was free, fair, and transparent, and I stand by my word. I will not accept results from a process that does not reflect the values that the ADC had pledged to uphold, to rescue Nigerians from the impunity and gross mismanagement that our country is currently facing in the hands of the ruling party…See More
