If Nigeria Gives Me The Opportunity To Be President, I Will Turn Nigeria Around In Four Years. Yes, It’s Possible – Rotimi Amaechi

Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has said he believes Nigeria can be turned around within four years if he is given the opportunity to serve as president.

Speaking at a recent political engagement, Amaechi stated that the country’s challenges are not beyond solutions, stressing that leadership, accountability, and policy consistency are the missing links.

“If Nigeria gives me the opportunity to be President, I will turn Nigeria around in four years. Yes, it’s possible,” he said.

Amaechi pointed to his experience in public office as the basis for his confidence. During his time as governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015, he highlighted investments in education, healthcare, and infrastructure as examples of what focused governance can achieve. As Minister of Transportation from 2015 to 2022, he oversaw the revival and expansion of Nigeria’s rail projects, including the Abuja-Kaduna, Lagos-Ibadan, and Itakpe-Warri lines.

He argued that Nigeria’s core problems stem from weak implementation and lack of continuity in government policies. According to him, many administrations start projects and abandon them, creating waste and eroding public trust. “We know what the problems are. Power, security, jobs, education. The issue is not knowledge, it is the will to execute and to hold people accountable,” Amaechi said.

On the economy, he said his priority would be to create an environment that attracts investment and reduces the cost of doing business. He also emphasized the need to tackle insecurity decisively and to reform the public service to improve service delivery.

Amaechi’s statement has stirred reactions across the political space. Supporters say his track record in infrastructure and public sector reform gives weight to his claim, while critics argue that four years is too short to reverse decades of systemic challenges. Political analysts note that any credible plan for national turnaround would require not just the presidency, but cooperation with the National Assembly, state governments, and the private sector.

The comment comes as political discussions around the 2027 general elections begin to gain momentum. Several figures within the opposition and ruling party have started signaling interest or positioning for the race.

For Amaechi, the message is clear: he believes Nigeria’s problems are solvable within a single presidential term, provided the right leadership is in place. Whether voters will agree remains to be tested at the polls…See More
