Frontline presidential aspirant of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has accused the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Joash Amupitan, of allegedly carrying out the wishes of President Bola Tinubu.
Obi made the allegation in an interview with News Central TV, excerpts of which were released ahead of the full broadcast.
The former Anambra State governor disclosed that he recently wrote to the INEC chairman, reminding him that his tenure in office would not last forever.
“If anybody had told me that we could use professors to run our elections and it would be worse, I would have said a capital no,” Obi said.
“I wrote to the present INEC Chairman and said, ‘Remember, you will not be here forever.’”
When asked whether he believes INEC is acting as an agent of the president, Obi replied, “Yes, completely. Whatever the INEC Chairman is doing today, he is acting the script written by the man who employed him.”
