An elderly woman, Ify Chigozie, has been arrested in Uga, Anambra State, for allegedly buying and selling children in a shocking child trafficking ring.

Operatives of the Agunechemba Special Squad (Operation Udo Ga Achi) arrested her in Uga town while she was with some of the children she had bought. During questioning, the woman reportedly confessed that she buys children and sells them for ₦800,000 each. She is said to have links with trafficking networks in Imo State.

Residents of the area expressed deep shock and anger when the news broke. Many wonder how a woman old enough to be a grandmother could engage in such a wicked business. The rescued children have been taken into protective custody where they are receiving care, while Ify Chigozie remains in police custody for further investigation.

This arrest is part of ongoing efforts by Anambra State security agencies to stamp out child trafficking, which has become a serious problem in the South East. Parents are warned to watch their children closely, especially in markets and busy areas.Social media has been flooded with reactions:

@AnambraVoice wrote: “₦800k for one child? This Ify Chigozie is heartless. How many children has she sold? God will judge her.”

@NaijaMotherhood posted: “Selling children like market goods? This is pure evil. Anambra people, let’s be vigilant. Our children are not for sale!”

@UgaYouths said: “Elderly woman doing this? No mercy for her. She must rot in jail. Imagine the pain of the parents whose children were taken.”

@HumanRightsNG added: “Child trafficking is modern-day slavery. Kudos to the security team that caught her. More arrests needed!”
