An elderly woman, Ify Chigozie, has been arrested in Uga, Anambra State, for allegedly buying and selling children in a shocking child trafficking ring.
Operatives of the Agunechemba Special Squad (Operation Udo Ga Achi) arrested her in Uga town while she was with some of the children she had bought. During questioning, the woman reportedly confessed that she buys children and sells them for ₦800,000 each. She is said to have links with trafficking networks in Imo State.
Residents of the area expressed deep shock and anger when the news broke. Many wonder how a woman old enough to be a grandmother could engage in such a wicked business. The rescued children have been taken into protective custody where they are receiving care, while Ify Chigozie remains in police custody for further investigation.
