The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep sorrow over the reported passing of Nollywood actor, Alexx Ekubo, describing the news as heartbreaking.

In a statement on Friday, Obi said he received the news of the actor’s death with sadness, noting that it has thrown the Nigerian entertainment industry and fans across the country into mourning.

He extended his condolences to the late actor’s family, friends, colleagues in Nollywood, and admirers who, according to him, were touched by Ekubo’s craft and creativity.

“On behalf of myself and everyone who values the immense contributions of our young creatives to nation-building, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues in Nollywood, and the countless fans whose lives he touched through his craft,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor also reflected on the fragility of life, urging people to live with kindness, compassion, and purpose.

“At moments like this, we are reminded once again of the fragility of life and the importance of living with kindness, compassion, and a sense of purpose,” Obi stated.

He noted that although the actor’s life was cut short, his legacy would live on through the memories and joy he created via his performances.

Obi prayed for God to grant the deceased’s family the strength to bear the loss and for the repose of his soul.

“I pray that God Almighty grants his family the strength and comfort to bear this painful loss, and may his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” he added.
