The Kebbi State Government has intensified its social welfare interventions with the distribution of cash grants, houses, tricycles and other support materials to vulnerable citizens across the state as part of efforts to improve livelihoods and reduce poverty.
A statement by Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser, SA, on Media and Publicity to the Kebbi State Governor, informed that the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hajiya Halima Hassan Kamba, disclosed this during the Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ultra Modern Secretariat Complex, Gwadangaji, Birnin Kebbi.
She said the administration of Governor Nasir Idris, popularly known as Kauran Gwandu, had recorded remarkable achievements in women empowerment, child protection, rehabilitation and social welfare within the last three years.
According to the Commissioner, the government has continued to implement people-oriented programmes aimed at uplifting women, youths, orphans and other vulnerable groups through various empowerment initiatives and welfare schemes.
Hajiya Halima explained that the Ministry had facilitated support programmes for overgrown orphans by providing them with cash grants and livelihood support materials to establish small businesses and become self-reliant.
She added that direct assistance had also been extended to vulnerable persons through the provision of houses, tricycles, motorcycles and household materials based on requests received by the Ministry.
The Commissioner described Governor Idris’ administration as “gender friendly and protector of women and children,” noting that the government had continued to prioritise policies that promote social inclusion and economic empowerment.
She further revealed that welfare support across social welfare institutions under the Ministry had increased by over 200 per cent, particularly in feeding and general welfare services for children and vulnerable persons.
Kamba also commended the Governor for sustaining the annual mass wedding programme for less privileged men and women, saying the initiative had helped strengthen family values and ease financial burdens on beneficiaries.
“By June this year, InshaAllah, 300 couples under the mass wedding programme will get married,” she stated.
The Commissioner disclosed that the Kauran Gwandu Children’s Home at Kawara had been renovated, upgraded and commissioned to provide a conducive environment for orphans and vulnerable children.
She also said the state Remand Home had been relocated to a fully renovated and furnished facility to improve rehabilitation services and ensure proper care for inmates.
Hajiya Halima praised Governor Nasir Idris for his commitment to the welfare of women, children and vulnerable groups, stressing that the administration’s interventions had positively impacted many families across Kebbi State.
The Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing was organised by the Ministry of Information and Culture under the leadership of the Commissioner, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, to showcase the achievements of the state government over the past three years.
