A 59-year old man, Lukman Adisa Adeniyi, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly standing as a surety for a suspected criminal and he ran away having realized that the Police had enough evidence against him.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Police has arrested Adeniyi and charged him before the Magistrate Court for allegedly perverting the course of justice in connection with a N30 million fraud case.

According to the charge sheet filed by the Commissioner of Police, the alleged offence occurred on 22nd November, 2025, at about 11:15 a.m. at Command Special Squad II, Lagos State Police Command, State Headquarters, GRA, Ikeja, within the Lagos Magisterial District.

The prosecution alleged that Lukman Adisa Adeniyi took one Abubakar Abdullahi on Police administrative bail. Abubakar was said to be involved in a case of obtaining money under false pretence and stealing N30,000,000, property of one Ogodiunor Godwin.

However, while the suspect was in Police custody, the defendant filled a bail bond and letter of undertaking, and submitted a National Identity Management System, NIMC, slip, with a promise to produce Abubakar at the Police Command as required.

The prosecution alleged that Lukman undertook to ensure Abubakar would appear pending the settlement or disposal of the case.

But the defendant failed to produce him on demand. He was subsequently arrested and charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

However,  he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted him bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
