Manchester United are planning to sell goalkeeper André Onana this summer as the club prepares for a major overhaul in the position ahead of next season.
According to ESPN, United have decided not to retain the Cameroonian goalkeeper as part of manager Michael Carrick’s long-term plans despite his hopes of returning to compete for a starting place.
Onana spent the season on loan at Turkish side Trabzonspor but now faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford.
United’s decision follows the emergence of Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper after his arrival from Royal Antwerp.
The Premier League side are reportedly satisfied with Lammens’ performances and do not want to disrupt the current defensive structure built around the 23-year-old.
Club officials are now actively exploring options for a permanent transfer for Onana, although his wages could complicate any potential move.
Reports also suggest United’s qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League could further increase the goalkeeper’s salary package, making negotiations more difficult for interested clubs.
The goalkeeper changes at Old Trafford may not stop with Onana.
Current second-choice goalkeeper Altay Bayındır is also expected to leave the club this summer in search of regular playing time.
As a result, United are reportedly open to signing another goalkeeper either as competition for Lammens or as a reliable backup option ahead of the new campaign.
The expected departures form part of Carrick’s wider restructuring plans as Manchester United prepare for next season following their return to Champions League football.
