Lagos lawmaker, Desmond Elliot has said he would remain loyal to the All Progressives Congress even if he is denied a party ticket ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that he has no intention of defecting to another political platform. Elliot made the remarks during an interview on TVC News on Friday, May 15, 2026, while discussing his political future and party loyalty.

During the interview, the Surulere lawmaker was asked what he would do if the APC eventually declined to offer him a ticket for the next election cycle. “So if APC eventually denies you the 2027 tickets, what would you do next? Will you step aside or support the next candidate? Or would you consider contesting for another party?” the interviewer asked.

Responding, Elliot said several people had advised him to leave the APC for another political party, but he rejected the suggestion. “So many people have called and say, ‘hey, go to another party.’ I say, ‘go to another party, as has how,’” he stated.

The actor-turned-politician expressed gratitude to the APC leader and Chief of staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila for giving him the opportunity to rise politically despite his humble background. “Daddy picked me from nowhere. Didn’t know who my father was, didn’t know who my mother was and I’ve been able to show and I’ve blessed life through this,” Elliot said.

Although he did not specifically mention any individual, the lawmaker appeared to reference influential figures within the party whom he believes supported his political journey.

Elliot stated that he would respect any decision taken by the party regarding his political future and would willingly support whoever emerges as the APC candidate. “If the party says Desmond, you have done well, go and sit down, I will sit down and support whoever the party brings,” he said. “And that is what it means to be a party member,” he added.

The Lagos lawmaker also warned against the growing culture of political defections, arguing that constant movement between parties weakens internal party development and mentorship for younger politicians.

“We as growing party members should know that there are younger people behind us,” Elliot stated. “And if we begin to do this jump from one party to another game that is going on, we will not exist. Then we are not looking for a good future,” he added.

Elliot reiterated that his loyalty to the APC would remain intact regardless of the outcome of the party’s internal processes ahead of the next elections. “So the thing is, if the party tells me eventually, ‘Desmond, go and sit down,’ I will sit down. But I will support whoever it is the party chooses,” he said….See More
