President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina, a 39‑year‑old computer engineering lecturer from Obafemi Awolowo University, as the new registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). He will succeed Ishaq Oloyede on July 31, 2026, becoming the youngest registrar in the board’s history. Aina holds a PhD in Digital Signal Processing and has extensive experience in digital infrastructure, examination systems, and public‑sector reform.

7 Things to Know About Segun Aina

Youngest ever JAMB registrar – Aina is 39 years old (turning 40 in July 2026), making him the youngest person to head the examination board since its establishment.

Academic credentials – He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering (University of Kent, 2008), an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security (Loughborough, 2009), and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing (Loughborough, 2015).

Professor at OAU – He is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, teaching courses in Computer Architecture, Real‑Time Systems, Digital Signal Processing, and Advanced Computer Architecture.

Started his career at JAMB – Aina served as a Computer Systems Engineer and Analyst with JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 2010, giving him first‑hand knowledge of the board’s operations.

Tech entrepreneur and consultant – He co‑founded Fluid Click Solutions Limited, an IT services company, and has consulted for major examination bodies including NECO and NABTEB on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimisation.

Leadership roles in academia – He chairs the COREN Accreditation Committee for 2023/2024 at OAU and coordinates the TETFund Centre of Excellence in Digital Literacy and Emerging Technology.

Professional memberships – He is a registered engineer with COREN and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and the Nigerian Computer Society. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
