A North Carolina mom has slammed a GOP congresswoman for her response to a letter from her 10-year-old son.

Emily Mango, from Greensboro, labeled Representative Virginia Foxx’s comments as “demoralizing,” “reprehensible” and “totally inappropriate” on Instagram in an excoriating critique.

Mango explained that her son Christian had been asked to write a persuasive essay on a topic of his choice as part of a school assignment.

Christian decided to write about the benefits of electric cars and suggested that the government consider a $5,000 tax rebate on purchases of them, Mango said.

He mailed the letter to Foxx, including “4th Grade” on the return address.

Foxx thanked Christian for his letter, in a response shared by Mango. She stated that they both “agree about the importance of fostering innovation” in the automobile industry.

However, according to the congresswoman, the 10-year-old’s policy would require the federal government to take “money out of the pockets of hardworking people.”

Foxx also attached several articles in her response, including one entitled 2038 that suggested that the U.S. had little time before interest payments on the national debt surpass the nation’s total discretionary spending.

Foxx added, “2038 is only 12 years away and YOU and your classmates will be responsible for that debt.”

“Incidentally, please ask your teacher to explain propaganda to you,” she continued.

“While I will never be able to know, my guess is that your teachers will not give you a good educational experience and help you learn to think as they are too interested in indoctrinating you. How sad.”

Mango tore into Foxx in her Instagram post, claiming that the latter had “attacked” her son’s “teachers, his school, his education, and referenced propaganda, indoctrination, and other concepts that a 10 year old (sic) has not been exposed to.”

The mom went on to say that the 82-year-old congresswoman was “out of touch.”

“I’m embarrassed that she represents NC,” Mango wrote. “I wish we had a representative who demonstrates respectful leadership and encourages children to engage in civil discourse rather than attacking children who write them letters.”

Mango concluded by demanding that the representative set a “better example.”

Speaking to FOX8 WGHP, Christian said that it was “wrong” for the congresswoman to criticize his teacher because “the school didn’t do anything.”

Foxx, who has served as a representative since 2005 and was endorsed by Trump in 2021, has been contacted for comment.
