Former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole has weighed in on the growing speculation surrounding the 2027 presidential election, particularly calls urging former President Goodluck Jonathan to return to the political arena.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Oshiomhole firmly dismissed discussions linking Jonathan to a potential presidential bid, urging political actors and commentators to refrain from dragging the former leader into what he described as unnecessary speculation.
Addressing the issue, Oshiomhole said, “Don’t drag my brother into that. That’s my brother who conceded defeat who said ‘Nigerian blood is not worth his ambition’. So that’s a complete gentleman.” He emphasized Jonathan’s statesmanship, particularly his widely praised decision to concede defeat in the 2015 general election, which marked a significant moment in Nigeria’s democratic history.
The former governor’s remarks come amid renewed conversations in political circles about possible candidates for the 2027 elections. Some stakeholders have suggested that Jonathan, who served as president from 2010 to 2015, could be persuaded to run again, citing his experience and previous leadership.
