A motorist has demonstrated the importance of having a dashcam after capturing the moment a crime occurred in the busy streets of Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

The footage showed the audacity of two young men committing a shocking act in broad daylight during a traffic snarl-up.

Ambulance stuck in Nairobi traffic

“Two brazen thieves were caught on camera stealing wheel caps from an ambulance trapped in traffic in a shocking daylight incident,” the caption read.

The driver was behind two buses that had stopped because of heavy traffic, and he appeared eager to get to his destination quickly.

Unable to wait for traffic to clear, he looked for a narrow opening on the left side to manoeuvre his way through. However, an ambulance overtook him and moved ahead.

It was a busy day in the city, with traders buying and selling by the roadside while pedestrians hurried along the footpaths.

The driver eventually stopped behind the ambulance, which appeared not to be in an emergency situation as its sirens were off while it remained stuck in traffic.

As vehicles waited for traffic to move, two men approached the ambulance from opposite sides and swiftly removed the wheel caps from the rear wheels.

They disappeared into the crowd within seconds, leaving the dashcam driver stunned by the daring theft.

The ambulance driver had no chance to get out and pursue the suspects due to the heavy traffic and could only remain inside the vehicle.

Nairobi thugs steal car grille

In another story, tension escalated in Nairobi after a dashcam captured three daring thieves ripping off a vehicle’s front grille along Parklands Road near the University of Nairobi Law School.

The video showed a coordinated gang of young men approaching a car stuck in traffic and immediately attempting to detach its grille. Their first attempt failed, forcing them to pause briefly.

Seconds later, one of them returned with renewed determination and successfully pulled off the grille. The trio then ran across the busy intersection connecting Thika Road and Limuru Road, nearly colliding with commuters waiting to board buses.

A police officer was seen rushing to intercept them but arrived too late and unsuccessfully hurled an object at them as they escaped into the traffic.

The brazen act highlighted a growing trend of organised criminals targeting vehicles trapped in traffic jams across the country.

Some Kenyans were left shaken and blamed the driver for hesitating, arguing that he could have driven into the thieves or pinned them against the matatu in front.
