Mercy Chepkirui sadly passed away on Thursday, May 7, after a short illness, leaving her family devastated.

Final moments of Mercy Chepkirui

Chepkirui worked as a public health professional at a health institution in Nairobi before she fell ill and later died.

Speaking to NgGossips, a friend and colleague opened up about the tragic incident that broke the hearts of the deceased’s family and friends.

“Chepkirui had been working at the institution for years. She used to work night shifts, and everything was always okay. Then one night, she fell ill. It seemed like the flu or something caused by the cold weather, but her condition worsened with time. She had to be rushed to another medical facility.

Just when we thought she would recover, the doctors confirmed upon arrival that she had already passed away,” Delvin Kipkemoi said.

When is Mercy Chepkirui’s burial?

Chepkirui’s death is not only a huge loss to the hospital where she worked, but also to her family, as she was the breadwinner despite being the lastborn.

She supported her family with everything she had, having come from a humble background, and much of the responsibility of uplifting the family rested on her shoulders.

“When we visited her home, we did not realise their financial situation was this bad. They are really struggling. We mobilised a few people to organise a fundraiser, but the money is still not enough. We are planning more fundraisers before she is laid to rest.

We plan to bury her on Tuesday, May 19. The major challenge is a lack of finances. We need money to clear the morgue bill, transport the body, and facilitate the burial. As of now, we still need at least an extra KSh 120,000,” he added.

Joy Cheptoo:

“You have been so generous to us, and we should also give back. But you have not shared the number where contributions can be sent. The Facebook family is willing to help. Rest in peace, Mercy Chepkirui.”

Kipngetich Kenneth:

“Even someone without compassion would be touched by this story. You have always been very helpful, and it is time we showed gratitude to our daughter.”

Edgar Kipkoech:

“My heart is heavy reading this. Mercy was one of us, and it hurts seeing the family go through such a painful moment. Friends and the Facebook family, please let us come together and support in any little way possible so she can receive a dignified send-off. No amount is too small. May God bless everyone who supports this family during this difficult time. Please let us not ignore this appeal.”
