In a video that has since gone viral, the man, driving a Narok County Government pickup truck, is seen at a roadblock surrounded by a group of youths.

How county driver evaded roadblock

What stood out was the banner on the front grill, which carried the words: “One Term, Ruto Must Go,” seemingly as a strategy to signal alignment with demonstrators and avoid confrontation.

The protestors appear to recognise the message and respond with cheers and gestures of approval, allowing the driver to pass without obstruction or damage to the vehicle.

“Hata county inasema one term!” an excited voice is heard in the background reacting to the bold message.

The incident comes amid heightened political tensions linked to demonstrations against President William Ruto’s government.

Why are Kenyans protesting?

For the second day running, angry Kenyans have been picketing across the country to express frustration over economic conditions and governance issues.

It all started after the government announced new fuel prices, fuelling outrage from the public and a nationwide strike by matatu operators.

The moment has sparked mixed reactions online, ranging from amusement to concern over the politicisation of protest spaces.

It also highlights the evolving dynamics on the ground, where symbolism and messaging can determine how individuals navigate volatile roadblocks.

Authorities have yet to comment on the viral clip, which continues to circulate widely across social media platforms.

Woman’s car torched in Githurai

Meanwhile, a Kiambu family was not lucky after losing their KSh 3 million Mazda CX-5 during protests in Githurai.

Priscillah Njiraini and her husband, Henry, infuriated the protestors after being spotted with merchandise that seemed to support the government.

The crowd ignored their pleas for dialogue and set the car ablaze, leaving them grappling with distress from the incident.

Their loss is further compounded by the likelihood that the insurance company might not compensate them for the burnt car.

Protestors clear road for Sonko

The incident comes hours after a group of demonstrators temporarily paused their actions to allow former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko to pass through with an ailing child.

Sonko’s convoy encountered a barricaded road with burning tyres and protesters demonstrating over the high fuel prices.

Amid the tense atmosphere, he appealed directly to the youths, explaining that he was rushing a baby to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
