The Nigeria Police Force has reacted to a viral video showing a police officer in Ekiti State allegedly behaving erratically while suspected to be under the influence of an illicit substance.………
The reaction was issued on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Aliyu Giwa through his verified social media platforms.
According to the statement, the officer captured in the viral video was identified as a Police Sergeant attached to the Ikole-Ekiti Division in Ekiti State.
Police authorities said the command acted swiftly after the footage surfaced online, leading to the officer being located and taken into custody.
“The incident was identified, the officer was located, and prompt action was taken,” the statement read.
The police further disclosed that although the officer is currently stable, he would still undergo a comprehensive medical and psychological evaluation before disciplinary actions are determined.
The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Falade Adegoroye Michael, was said to have ordered a full investigation into the matter.
“The Force leadership through the Commissioner of Police has ordered a full psychological and medical evaluation before disciplinary proceedings commence,” the statement added.
The police stressed that the conduct displayed in the viral video does not represent the standards and values of the institution, insisting that such behaviour would not be tolerated or excused.
“What was seen in that video does not represent the Nigeria Police Force. It does not reflect its standards, its values, or the discipline this institution demands from every officer in uniform,” the statement noted.
