Nigerian comedian and activist, MC Okrika, has gone viral after directly confronting some operatives of the Cross River State Police Command in Ikom over the alleged extortion of ₦150,000 from a man and one of the officers “caught” on camera hiding what he said was cannabis.
In a viral video, he filmed officers at an improvised checkpoint, accusing them of extorting ₦150,000 from a farmer riding a motorcycle.
While recording the scene, MC Okrika spotted and called out an officer holding what appeared to be cannabis.
The officer kept turning in different directions and eventually hid the content in his trousers.
The officers, dressed in black outfits, with just one of them wearing the known trouser of the police, appeared uncomfortable during the recording, with one attempting to hide his face while another questioned why he was being filmed.
MC Okrika, known for his anti-corruption comedy and activism, demanded that the allegedly extorted money be returned.
The footage has triggered widespread online debate, with many Nigerians praising MC Okrika for his immense bravery in documenting the encounter, while others expressed concern over the risks of directly confronting armed personnel.
As of the time of reporting, the Cross River State Police Command had yet to issue any response to the incident.
