- RCCG has come under heavy online criticism following claims that a planned nationwide protest against insecurity and hardship was allegedly restricted after intervention linked to First Lady Remi Tinubu.
- While critics accused the church of political compromise, supporters argued that the situation was being exaggerated and misunderstood online.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has become a major topic online following claims that a planned nationwide protest against insecurity and economic hardship was allegedly scaled down after intervention linked to Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.
The controversy began after viral posts claimed that RCCG General Overseer Enoch Adeboye had initially approved a three-day fasting and prayer programme expected to end with a peaceful nationwide rally on May 24, 2026.
According to the circulating claims, the planned march was meant to address issues including insecurity, killings, economic hardship, and concerns over the state of the country.
A leaked memo shared online appeared to show internal directives stating that the rally would no longer hold openly across communities but would instead be restricted to designated church premises and selected venues.
Part of the memo reportedly stated:
“The rally will now be held at a single venue in each state within the Southern part of the country only and shall be restricted to the designated premises.”
The viral post further alleged that the decision followed an intervention from First Lady Remi Tinubu, who is also known to be a member and ordained pastor within RCCG. However, no official public confirmation of such a phone call was included in the claims circulating online.
The issue quickly generated heated reactions online, with critics accusing RCCG of being politically compromised, while supporters defended the church leadership and questioned the accuracy of some of the allegations.
