The consensus candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Sen. Solomon Adeola has emerged winner of the governorship primary on Thursday.

Adeola popularly known as Yayi scored 304,055 votes to defeat his opponent Mr Abayomi Hunye who scored zero.

Recall that Abayomi Hunye had picked the APC form despite the party’s adoption of Adeola as its consensus candidate by the vast majority of the APC aspirants and leaders, including Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Hunye participated in the governorship primary at his Ward in Tube, Ipokia local government of Ogun State, where the exercise witnessed a massive and peaceful turnout.

Hunye, while speaking to journalists after casting his vote, denied insinuations of his disqualification, saying the crowd at his ward showed his popularity among the people in the State.

He also appealed to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dapo Abiodun to make sure the votes are counted without no bias.

Announcing the result at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, on Thursday, the Chairman Governorship Primary Election Committee for the state, Mr Wale Ohu, stated that the party had 343,292 registered voters, while 305,287 were accredited for the election and Adeola polled 304,055 votes.

“There were two contestants. Sen. Solomon Adeola scored 304,055 votes while Mr Abayomi Hunye polled zero.

“With these results, I hereby announced that the winner of today’s contest is senator Solomon Adeola and to represent the party in the 2027 governorship election in the state,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, Adeola, pledged to consolidate on the achievements of Gov Dapo Abiodun and sustain peace and unity within the APC if elected governor in 2027.

The senator also commended Abiodun for ensuring a peaceful and seamless primary election process, describing it as unprecedented in the political history of the state.
