Kenyan teacher Cillah has sparked an online conversation after emotionally breaking down her monthly salary, concluding that she earns about KSh 2 per minute despite the demanding nature of her work.

In the viral TikTok video, Teacher Cillah is seen holding a piece of paper as she carefully calculates how much she makes from her reported KSh 30,000 salary, and the result leaves her heartbroken.
The young teacher appears visibly shocked as she does the math, repeatedly questioning whether the amount she earns truly reflects the effort she puts into her job.
She lamented that the ‘KSh 2 bob per minute’ salary barely translates into meaningful earnings when divided across the hours she spends teaching, preparing lessons, and handling other school responsibilities.

“I have just realised that I am paid KSh 2 bob per minute. Two bob! This is crazy. I swear I have done the calculations,” she said while holding up the piece of paper.

“I feel shortchanged. If you see me venturing into business, don’t tell me anything about being a teacher,” she added with a hint of disappointment in her voice.
At one point, she wondered aloud how long it would take her to improve her life financially or even afford a car. She pleaded with her followers to help her secure social media gigs to supplement her meagre salary.
In the comments, many asked her not to be discouraged, saying her salary will most likely rise as she gains more teaching experience.
Others asked her to calculate the salary using 22 days instead of 30, for the sake of her sanity.
