Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has declared that he is now more determined than ever to remove President Bola Tinubu from office in the 2027 elections, following an alleged attempted arrest at an airport.

The politician made the bold statement during a visit from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. He described the incident as “unfortunate, unnecessary, and possibly unlawful,” claiming that operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), acting on instructions from the National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, attempted to detain him without a formal invitation.

El-Rufai explained that he had already been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) but was abroad at the time. He added that his lawyer had informed the commission of his scheduled appearance at 10 am the following Monday.

“All I asked for was a letter of invitation, and I would have honoured it,” El-Rufai said, accusing the government of turning security agencies into tools of political intimidation.

The former governor used the episode to urge opposition leaders to remain united and focused, warning that such actions threaten democratic institutions and the rule of law.

“Today only made me more determined. We must keep working and not rest until March 2027, when we remove this government from office,” El-Rufai vowed.
