President Bola Tinubu has approved Nigeria’s bid to host the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and this year’s CAF Awards Ceremony.
The President gave the approval during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, following a meeting with CAF President, Patrice Motsepe.
Those present at the meeting included Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau, Special Adviser to the CAF President, Amaju Melvin Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary, Samson Adamu.
According to the announcement, the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled to hold in October this year.
The CAF General Assembly is one of the most important gatherings in African football, bringing together presidents of CAF’s 54 Member Associations, representatives of the six zonal unions, and top football administrators from across the continent to deliberate on key issues affecting the game in Africa.
The CAF Awards Ceremony, which Nigeria will also host, is regarded as one of African football’s biggest annual events, celebrating outstanding players, coaches, teams, and football personalities across the continent.
