He also revealed that one of the biggest outcomes of the negotiations involved large-scale aviation agreements between the two economic powers, saying that China agreed to purchase more than 200 Boeing aircraft, with an additional commitment for 750 more planes in the future.
Trump also revealed that Chinese buyers would acquire between 400 and 450 aircraft engines from General Electric, moves expected to provide a major boost to the American manufacturing and aviation sectors, stressing that increased trade with China would also benefit American farmers, saying agricultural exports are expected to rise significantly under the new arrangements.
President Donald Trump went further to say that despite the focus on economic cooperation, tariffs were surprisingly absent from the discussions, noting that while China continues to pay substantial tariffs imposed by the American Government, neither side directly raised the issue during the two-day summit.
Trump also confirmed that Taiwan was discussed extensively, emphasizing that he made no commitment either way regarding future US policy toward the island.
He also added that President Xi wants to avoid military conflict in the region, while noting that the American Government would soon decide whether to proceed with additional arms sales to Taiwan.
Regarding, the ongoing international concerns over the nuclear ambition of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the leadership of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Trump said he remains open to a potential agreement that would suspend Tehran’s nuclear activities for two decades, but insisted that any deal must include enforceable guarantees.
He also dismissed reports suggesting Iran still possesses a strong missile capability, claiming the country’s arsenal had been significantly weakened during the recent conflict with the United States.
Trump also revealed he is considering lifting sanctions on Chinese companies accused of purchasing Iranian oil after discussing the matter with Xi, saying a final decision could come within days.
