A viral video from a Kay Hikers Club coffee meetup has ignited intense online debate after a woman made controversial claims about why many women enter marriage, triggering strong reactions across social media.

A video from a Kay Hikers Club coffee meetup has gone viral after an unidentified woman made bold and controversial claims about the motivations of women in marriage, sparking a fierce debate online along gender lines.

During the gathering, the woman argued that many women even those who appear successful and independent enter marriages primarily for financial gain, with their ventures often secretly funded by their husbands.

She also cautioned men about the risk of women exiting marriages quickly after having children, framing her comments as an honest warning that most women would not openly give.

Her remarks were met with enthusiastic approval from male viewers, many of whom praised her for speaking what they described as an uncomfortable truth.

In response, several men used the conversation as a platform to advocate for prenuptial agreements and paternity tests as practical measures of self-protection, particularly in the context of Nigeria’s current economic hardships.

Female commenters, however, were largely unconvinced and critical. Many dismissed the woman as a “pick me” a term used to describe women perceived as seeking male validation by putting down other women.

They also pointed out that Nigerian law already provides protection for assets acquired before marriage, making prenuptial agreements less of a legal necessity, though many acknowledged that such agreements are becoming more common amid a noticeable rise in divorce rates across the country.

The clip has since fueled broader conversations about trust, financial transparency, and evolving expectations within modern Nigerian marriages.

“You’ll bring a woman in, she’ll give you a child and she’ll ask for a divorce after a year just because she’s after your money. Many of our women now are going into marriages for survival, many of the women in Nigeria cannot survive on their own… pic.twitter.com/GM1kNRscZQ
