According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday, May 14, 2026, the National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has stated that the movement of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has created a setback for opposition politics in the country.

According to him, the development has implications that extend beyond the ADC and could weaken broader efforts aimed at building a stronger political challenge ahead of the next presidential election cycle.

Abdullahi explained that the departure of prominent political figures from an opposition platform affects not only the political party they leave behind but also the larger objective of creating a coordinated political force.

He indicated that when influential politicians and their supporters move in different directions, the result could be a fragmented structure that may struggle to present a strong alternative during future elections.

He stressed that political alliances and cooperation among opposition groups would play an important role as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections.

He maintained that unity among parties and political actors remains one of the major factors that could influence the outcome of any future contest against the current administration.

The ADC spokesman expressed the view that opposition parties would increase their chances of making a significant impact if they worked together instead of pursuing separate political interests.

He suggested that a common direction and coordinated strategy would place them in a stronger position politically and provide a broader platform capable of attracting support across different parts of the country.

Abdullahi made the remarks during an interview on AIT’s Political Platform, where he spoke on the political implications surrounding recent developments within opposition circles.

During the discussion, he addressed issues relating to party movements and their possible impact on the balance of political forces in the country.

He also indicated that developments involving key political actors often produce consequences that go beyond the parties directly involved.

He noted that such decisions can influence the general political environment and affect the collective strength of opposition groups seeking to establish a stronger presence before the next election period.

Speaking during the interview, he said, “What happened to Peter Obi and Kwankwaso leaving the ADC does not hurt only the ADC, it hurt the generality, it’s going to affect them the way it’s going to affect us….See More
