Public affairs analyst Jide Ojo has expressed disappointment over the apparent collapse of plans by opposition leaders to unite behind a single presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.………
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Ojo recalled a recent opposition meeting held in Ibadan where discussions reportedly centered on forming a united front to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in the next election cycle.
According to him, the meeting initially raised hopes that major opposition figures and parties would align under the African Democratic Congress to present a formidable challenge in 2027.
“When the opposition met in Ibadan 3 or 4 weeks ago and they decided they are going to field one candidate, I was happy. At that time it was looking like all the major opposition were going to coalesce under ADC. But lo and behold just barely a week after coming from Ibadan, you saw the pull-out of Rabiu Kwankwaso and Peter Obi,” Ojo said.
The analyst noted that the withdrawal of key political figures from the proposed arrangement may weaken the opposition’s chances of presenting a united challenge against President Bola Tinubu and the APC in 2027.
