Eight pastors arrested from mainly Onitsha, Awka and other parts of Anambra State were yesterday arraigned at the Anambra State High Court at the state judiciary complex, Awka.
Though journalists were restricted from covering the session, a government source who is a media adviser to Anambra State Governor, Mr. Ejimofor Opara, said the pastors who he described as fake pastors violated the 2025 Homeland Security Law.
The law which came into existence in February 2025 frowned at certain forms of religious practices that are deemed inimical to the public, especially as it pertains to wealth creation.
Last year, some native doctors who were promoting get-rich-quick practices were also arrested. While some have been prosecuted and jailed, others are still undergoing trial.
The suspects being shepherded into the court room by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Homeland Security, Prince Ken Emeakayi.
Eight suspects arraigned were Peter Chukwu, Chinedu Egwuonwu, Bishop Emeka Nwankpa, Ebele Nnachukwu and Ekeleme Chris Ugochukwu.
The others are Ndubisi Nnachukwu, Miracle Iruoma and Chukwukadibia Ogwuama.
The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN, led the prosecution against the suspects.
Details of their offences were yet to be made available to journalists by the Anambra State Government as at the time of filing this report.
