The Kano State Police Command has warned residents, especially young people, against engaging in roller skating on highways, bridges, construction sites, and other restricted areas within Kano metropolis.

The police on Friday said the growing practice has become dangerous and poses serious risks to both skaters and other road users.

They noted that some youths have also been seen holding onto or latching themselves to moving vehicles for speed and excitement, describing the act as extremely risky and life-threatening.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, warned that the command will not tolerate such behaviour.

He said, “We have observed with grave concern the increasing trend of roller skating on major highways, bridges, and construction sites within the state.”

He added that such activities put lives at risk, stressing that major roads are meant solely for vehicles, not recreation.

“Roller skating on fast-moving roads poses a serious threat to the lives of the skaters and other road users,” he said.

The police commissioner also warned against the habit of holding onto moving vehicles, saying it has already led to serious injuries and deaths in some parts of the country.

He urged parents, guardians, and schools to take responsibility by cautioning children and youths against engaging in such dangerous activities.

He further stated that anyone caught obstructing traffic, endangering lives, or engaging in reckless skating activities would be arrested and prosecuted.

The command assured residents of its commitment to maintaining public safety and urged the public to report any dangerous skating activities to the nearest police station.
