In a recent interview on Symfoni TV, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, ADC chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo discussed the political principles he believes have guided former Vice President Atiku Abubakar throughout his career. During the conversation, he addressed questions regarding presidential ticket arrangements and the considerations that influence major electoral decisions in Nigeria.

Okonkwo said Atiku has consistently prioritized what he considers national interest over short-term political gains. He argued that the former vice president has demonstrated a commitment to maintaining balance and inclusiveness within the country’s political system, even when alternative options appeared politically advantageous.

Speaking during the interview, Okonkwo stated, “Atiku has never agreed to run a Muslim-Muslim ticket, no matter how profitable it would be for him.” He made the remark while explaining Atiku’s position on issues of representation and national integration.

According to Okonkwo, Atiku believes that Nigeria’s diversity should be reflected in the composition of presidential tickets. He maintained that the former vice president has repeatedly rejected approaches that could create feelings of exclusion among significant segments of the population.

The ADC chieftain further argued that leadership requires difficult choices and that some decisions should be guided by long-term national stability rather than immediate electoral calculations. He noted that political leaders often face pressure to adopt strategies that maximize votes, but must also consider the broader consequences of their actions.

Okonkwo emphasized that building trust among Nigerians remains essential for effective governance. He suggested that inclusive political arrangements can help strengthen confidence in democratic institutions and foster greater national unity.

He concluded by expressing the view that successful leadership depends on balancing political ambition with responsibility, adding that Nigeria’s future will be better served by leaders who place national cohesion above personal or electoral interests…Discover More
