A birthday celebration in Owerri reportedly turned chaotic after a female celebrant allegedly consumed a large quantity of an alcoholic energy drink known as Black Bullet, leading to severe behavioural instability and public disturbance.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred during a private birthday gathering over the weekend, where the celebrant initially participated normally before her condition suddenly changed after several hours of drinking.
According to accounts from people at the scene, she was later seen behaving in an erratic manner, removing her clothing and running into the street. Initially, some guests believed she was joking, but the situation quickly escalated as her behaviour became increasingly uncontrollable, prompting bystanders to intervene and restrain her for safety reasons.
Several witnesses alleged that she may have consumed up to nine cans of Black Bullet, a strong alcoholic energy drink widely available in some parts of Nigeria. The drink combines high caffeine levels with alcohol, a mix health experts warn can mask intoxication and lead to excessive consumption.
“She was normal at first, but later started acting strange. People said she took a lot of Black Bullet. After a while, she became out of control and ran into the street,” one witness said.
Videos purportedly from the scene circulated briefly on WhatsApp and X before being taken down. Many online users urged others not to share the footage to protect the woman’s dignity.

Medical personnel were eventually contacted, and she was taken to a nearby hospital where she is currently receiving treatment. A hospital source who requested anonymity confirmed she was admitted for observation. Her exact condition has not been officially disclosed as of the time of this report.
The Imo State Police Command said it is aware of the incident but noted that no formal complaint has been filed. “We advise moderation and responsible behaviour at social gatherings. Parents and event organizers should monitor alcohol consumption,” a police spokesperson said.
The incident has sparked renewed concern among residents about the growing misuse of alcoholic energy drinks and hard substances during social events, with many calling for increased awareness on substance abuse and its consequences.
NAFDAC has previously warned that combining alcohol with energy drinks can increase heart rate, mask the depressant effects of alcohol, and lead to risky behaviour. The agency banned the production and sale of sachet alcohol earlier this year, but larger cans of alcoholic energy drinks remain on the market.
