Former Kano State Governor and leading opposition figure, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has revealed details of his closed-door meeting with former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, describing their discussions as frank and centred on the future of both their party and the country.

Kwankwaso made the disclosure on Saturday through a message shared on his official X account, a day after he hosted Obi at his Abuja residence.

According to the former governor, the visit came shortly after Obi returned from an overseas trip. He said the meeting provided an opportunity for both leaders to exchange views on important political developments and issues affecting Nigeria.

In his statement, Kwankwaso said, “Yesterday, I had the honour of hosting my brother and partner, His Excellency Peter Obi, at my residence in Abuja.”

He added that he welcomed Obi back from what he described as a productive international engagement and that both men held discussions on major partisan and national matters.

Kwankwaso also used the opportunity to dismiss any suggestion of disunity within the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC. He insisted that the party remains focused on its objectives despite differing opinions among its leaders.

The former presidential candidate stressed that political leaders must show maturity and place the collective interest above personal ambitions. According to him, compromise and tolerance are necessary if the opposition hopes to achieve its long-term goals.

He said, “Our party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), remains united. As leaders, we must continue to demonstrate maturity by making the necessary sacrifices and tolerating our differences in pursuit of our shared goal.”

Kwankwaso further assured supporters that the party’s leadership is committed to working together and building a stronger political platform ahead of future elections.

He concluded his message with an optimistic note, declaring, “We are resolute in this mission, and together, we shall ensure that Nigeria is OK.”
