Unfortunately, one man’s dream of a better future abroad has hit a snag as he searches for alternatives to rebuild his life or return home.

Lennox Kasule Mugambi painfully explained that he has been homeless in Frankfurt, Germany, for the past four years.

The 29-year-old shared his heartbreaking story, noting that he has been living in the European country for over 10 years.

“I have been sleeping outside for two years but have been homeless for four years. I was staying in a place where other homeless people slept, but since I could not cope with their rules and regulations, I was thrown out. They are very strict. Some of the rules include having to sleep and wake up at certain times, being present, and always being reachable, among others,” he said.

What happens when documents are stolen?

Lennox painfully disclosed that despite having a residence permit, he ended up homeless after his documents were stolen.

He said he is still registered with the system but needs the physical documents, which are more important than digital records.

“When documents are stolen, they can be used for illegal activities. Some are even sold and can end up in the wrong hands. It is very important to keep them on you or store them somewhere safe. As soon as your residence permit or documents are lost, you should report it to the police. I also got in touch with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the matter, so I am just waiting for communication,” he said.

Does Lennox have degree or diploma?

Lennox added that he is not on good terms with his father due to personal reasons, hinting that it was partly why he found himself in his current situation.

He further revealed that he does not have a degree, diploma, or certificate, although he had been working for the past six years.

“I was pursuing my bachelor’s degree, but I got overwhelmed by stress and everything broke down. During that period, I became a father. My daughter is now turning five years old. At the same time, I had to work full-time while pursuing my studies and taking care of my family. It was not easy,” he said.

Netizens react to Lennox’s emotional story

PHILKaJo:

“Painful to imagine what this fellow Ugandan has gone through. I hope he manages to get off the streets and rebuild his life. He is still young and brilliant.”

MeaslesHere:

“Listening to him speak about the amount of responsibility he was carrying in his early 20s, with a daughter, two jobs, cultural stress, and being estranged from his father and home country. Here in NYC, that’s what we call a recipe for serious existential burnout. Respect for this gentleman.”

b.3940:

“It’s emotionally painful being homeless, but the one thing our Ugandan brother has is that his mind still seems intact. Homelessness can eventually make someone lose their mind, like Diop from Senegal did.”

maxbak:

“Please don’t judge. I had a cousin who was homeless, just like this guy, but wouldn’t accept that he had a mental illness (MHSRIP). He was smartly dressed, a Soviet-trained mechanical engineer, and a former university lecturer. If you met him, he was well-spoken and presentable like this guy, but he was mentally ill. This man may be struggling mentally, though he is very intelligent. His advice to Ugandans thinking of travelling to Europe is spot-on. It’s sad to see harsh comments here.”

magaretekwin3659:

“This young man seems okay. He appears to have been on his own since he was young. He said his mother passed away when he was three years old. He also said he didn’t have a great relationship with his father and that his siblings were not around him. He ended up living abroad at a young age, and in Europe, or any foreign country, it is very difficult for young people to survive without mature adult support. That said, I can appreciate his struggles, and with intervention, he can rebuild his life. Living abroad is very demanding for young Black African men. There is hope that he can turn things around. His advice to people back home is very valid.”
