The Nigeria Democratic Congress has urged Nigerians to disregard results circulating on social media as the outcome of its nationwide primary elections.

The party held primaries across the country on Saturday for various elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, some results have been circulating on X and other social media platforms, suggesting that certain aspirants, including former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, lost out in the exercise.

Reacting in a statement on Sunday, the National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Osa Director, said only the party’s National Executive Council has the authority to announce official results of the primaries.

“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress on the 28th and 29th of May, 2026,” the statement read.

“The results of the primaries are with the National Executive Council of our great party. They are solely responsible for announcements of results.”

Director said the party’s national leader, Seriake Dickson, had summoned a NEC meeting to consider the outcome of the primaries.

According to him, members of the party organ are expected to arrive in Abuja for a pre-NEC meeting on Tuesday, while the main NEC meeting will hold on Wednesday.

He added that the public and stakeholders would be informed of the official results after the party forwards the names of its candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“The general public and stakeholders will be availed of the results of our primaries when we send the list of candidates to fly our party’s flag to INEC,” the statement added.

The party, however, did not conduct primaries for the FCT senatorial race and its presidential ticket, paving the way for Peter Obi to emerge as its sole presidential aspirant and eventual candidate.
