The National Sports Commission (NSC) has appointed Hon. Lekan Fatodu as the President of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation.

The appointment was announced on Friday by the Director-General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade.

He explained that the strategic decision falls directly in line with the commission’s ongoing structural reforms aimed at repositioning national sports federations through visionary leadership and robust athlete development programs.

Fatodu, who currently serves as the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), steps into the national role at a critical transition period for aquatic sports in Nigeria, where stakeholders are actively demanding better pathways for grassroots talent, technical upgrades, and global competitiveness.

Reaffirming the commission’s long-term objectives, Olopade stressed that the NSC remains committed to ensuring that key sporting bodies are steered by competent administrators capable of driving sustainable growth and delivering measurable results on the international stage.

Reacting to his appointment, Fatodu described the new portfolio as an honor and a call to national service, promising to duplicate his sub-national sports administration successes on the federal stage.

“This appointment represents an opportunity to build stronger structures for aquatic sports development across the country. Our focus will be on creating pathways that identify talent early, strengthen coaching and technical capacity, improve competition opportunities, and ensure that Nigerian athletes can compete successfully on the continental and global stage.”
