The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspects allegedly linked to the kidnapping and murder of two hostages in Okada, Edo State, recovering a police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones during the operation.

The suspects, identified as Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20, were apprehended in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode following intelligence-led investigations by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the state PPRO, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are wanted in connection with an ongoing kidnapping and murder case being investigated in Edo State.

The statement partly reads, “Following extensive profiling and investigation, the suspects were identified as Gafaru Adamu, ‘m’, aged 25, and Muhammed Sanni, ‘m’, aged 20. Preliminary findings revealed that the suspects are wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation into a kidnapping and murder case reported in the Okada area of Edo State.

“Further intelligence gathered by the Command indicates that the suspects are alleged members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate linked to the incident under investigation.

“During the course of the investigation, operatives recovered one pair of Police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects. The exhibits have been properly documented and taken into custody to aid further investigation.”

The command noted that the offences under investigation were committed outside Ogun State and said the suspects, along with the recovered exhibits, would be transferred to the Edo State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution in line with inter-state policing procedures.

Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and diligence of the operatives involved in the operation, describing the arrests as a significant breakthrough.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to preventing Ogun State from being used as a safe haven or transit point for criminal elements and pledged continued collaboration with other state commands to combat crime.

The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information that could assist security agencies in tackling criminal activities across the state.
