According to a report by Punch on Thursday, June 4, 2026, government authorities allegedly rejected Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo’s attempt to help free kidnapped pupils in Oyo State, citing concerns that any outside interference could put the victims’ lives in jeopardy.

throughout a meeting at his villa in Ibadan, Igboho addressed student representatives about insecurity and community-based responses to rising kidnapping instances in the South-West. He made the assertion throughout his speech.

Claiming to have volunteered to rally his local security network, he said they were on the hunt for kidnappers who were allegedly hiding out in Oyo villages’ forest reserves. He claims he was only trying to lend his support to the continuing movement to free the kidnapped students.

According to Igboho, however, government officials in Oyo State warned against the operation, citing intelligence inputs that indicated the kidnappers had threatened to kill the children in the event of a violent rescue effort. According to him, his planned intervention was shelved after this warning.

“I volunteered to go, but the state government said no,” he stated, adding that he had no financial demands attached to his offer and was motivated solely by concern for the victims’ safety.

Additionally, he stated that local security mechanisms, when given the authority and working in tandem with government agencies, may be more effective in addressing insecurity in rural and forested regions.

Based on his knowledge of the area and its networks, Igboho maintained that he would have been an asset to the rescue mission.

While the activist acknowledges and understands the government’s stance, he believes that more immediate measures are required to tackle the persistent issue of kidnappings in the area.

He demanded that law enforcement and community-based operatives work together more effectively to stop such attacks….Discover More
