The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has responded to recent criticisms and allegations made by former ally Kenneth Okonkwo, insisting that he has always conducted himself within the bounds of the law and due process.

Speaking amid the ongoing public dispute between the two politicians, Obi dismissed suggestions that he engages in questionable political practices, stating that his record in public office speaks for itself.

“I can never act rascally. I have never been known as someone who operates rascally; I always operate within the rules and guidelines,” Obi said.

The former Anambra State governor added that while critics are free to make allegations against him, he remains committed to the values of transparency and accountability.

“It is easy for anyone to say anything against me, but the fact remains that I will never be part of what I am trying to change,” he stated.

Obi further argued that if personal enrichment had been his goal, he would have taken advantage of opportunities available to him while serving in government.

“If I wanted that, I would have done it when I left office as governor and taken all the money like any other person,” he said.

The remarks come amid a growing rift between Obi and Okonkwo, who recently made a series of allegations against the former governor. The dispute has since escalated into a legal battle, with Obi demanding a public retraction, apology, and ₦5 billion in damages over what he describes as defamatory claims.
