The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has launched an enforcement drive targeting vehicles with tinted glass, covered number plates, and missing registration, citing their role in enabling criminal activity across Abuja.

FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, speaking at a press conference on Friday, said intelligence reports have established that criminal elements particularly those involved in one-chance operations deliberately use such vehicles to conceal their identities, evade detection, and frustrate law enforcement efforts.

The enforcement exercise was ordered by Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu, who directed the command to carry out a comprehensive crackdown on vehicles violating these regulations.

Sanusi clarified that the operation is not aimed at law-abiding citizens who have legitimately obtained approval for tinted windows, but is specifically designed to deny criminals the cover they exploit to prey on residents.

Over 30 vehicles have already been impounded since the exercise began, and the commissioner said owners and operators of the seized vehicles will be charged in court in line with the Laws of the Federation and the FCT Road Transport Regulations of 2023.
