The Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign over the worsening security situation in the country, accusing his administration of failing in its constitutional responsibility to protect the lives and property of Nigerians.

In a statement issued by its National Chairman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the party said the escalating wave of insecurity across the country had exposed the government’s inability to safeguard citizens from violent crimes, kidnappings and armed attacks.

According to the PRP, insecurity has spread across all parts of the country, with Nigerians of all ages and social classes increasingly becoming victims of criminal activities.

“It is now beyond any doubt that President Bola Tinubu has failed woefully in discharging his primary responsibility as President of Nigeria, which is to secure the lives and property of citizens,” the statement said.

The party lamented that no segment of the population appears immune from the threat posed by criminal groups, saying, “From generals to toddlers; from Bama to Badagry, no Nigerian is safe under this leadership.”

The PRP argued that criminal elements have continued to exploit weaknesses in the nation’s security architecture, resulting in persistent attacks on communities and vulnerable groups.

The opposition party also expressed concern over the growing targeting of schoolchildren by criminal gangs, warning that the country must not become accustomed to such incidents.

“Schoolchildren have joined the long list of soft targets, and the nation appears to be approaching the point where this situation is being accepted as normal. We must not submit to the weakness of leaders and the exploits of criminals,” the statement added.

The party further contended that despite the extensive powers vested in the presidency, the Tinubu administration had failed to deploy them effectively to address the country’s security challenges.

“This is not how Nigerians should live. Our President has failed the nation, and there is no evidence that he can improve on his pathetic record,” the PRP stated.

The party maintained that leaders in other democratic societies would be held accountable for similar failures and urged Nigerians to demand greater responsibility and responsiveness from those in power.

Calling for immediate action, the PRP declared that President Tinubu should step down from office, insisting that Nigerians should not have to wait until the 2027 general elections before seeking a change in leadership.

Mr Baba-Ahmed said citizens who continue to face threats from bandits, kidnappers and other violent criminals cannot afford to tolerate what he described as a prolonged failure of governance.

“Nigerians should demand, with one voice, that President Tinubu’s failure to secure the country cannot be tolerated any further,” the statement said. This version tightens the language, improves flow and balance, and presents the allegations in a standard news-reporting style.
