According to a report by the Nigerian Tribune on Sunday, 31 May, 2026, Reno Omokri, Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, has argued that it is impractical for the Federal Government to provide security for every school across the country, given current realities.

In a statement shared on X on Saturday, Omokri reacted to the recent abduction of schoolchildren in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, placing the incident within the wider context of insecurity affecting the Sahel region.

He cautioned against what he described as emotionally charged criticism of the federal authorities, urging Nigerians instead to adopt a more pragmatic and solution-driven perspective.

Omokri emphasized the importance of vigilance at the community level, encouraging citizens to promptly report suspicious movements or activities through designated emergency channels.

According to him, timely intelligence and cooperation between residents and security agencies are essential in preventing attacks and improving overall safety.

He wrote partly, “Let us now consider some facts and introduce solutions.

“Rather than criticise President Bola Tinubu over the Ogbomosho Abduction, ask your Governor to get on board with the State Police initiative of the Tinubu Administration.”

The former presidential aide maintained that decentralising policing through state-controlled security structures would provide a more effective approach to tackling localized threats.

He insisted that governors must take greater responsibility by supporting the proposed reforms, rather than relying solely on federal intervention to address security challenges nationwide….See More
