The United Nations has raised fresh concerns over the growing security crisis in Nigeria after revealing that weapons looted during Libya’s 2011 conflict later found their way into the hands of extremist groups operating across Nigeria and the wider Sahel region.
Speaking at the UN Headquarters in New York, the Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Izumi Nakamitsu, warned that weapons stolen during wars often continue to fuel violence long after conflicts have ended.
According to her, arms looted during the uprising that toppled former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi eventually spread across several African countries, including Nigeria, Niger, and Burkina Faso…......>>>
