Four members of the National Youth Service Corps and a soldier have been confirmed dead in a road accident along the Yola–Mubi road in Adamawa State.

The accident occurred on Wednesday at about 1:50 p.m. in the Narehi area of Girei/Song Local Government Area.

The Adamawa State Police Command spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday.

“The unfortunate incident involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi towards Yola and a commercial Hummer bus conveying five passengers from Yola to Mubi.

“Preliminary findings reveal that both vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, resulting in the commercial bus flipping over and bursting into flames,” he said.

All five occupants of the bus were reportedly burnt to death.

“Preliminary identification reveals that four of the deceased were serving members of the NYSC posted to Adamawa State.

“They are Suleiman Juliet, female, and Usman Shuaibu, male, both indigenes of Kaduna State, while the remaining victims are yet to be identified,” he said.

The command also confirmed that a soldier attached to the military vehicle died in the crash.

The police operatives and emergency responders evacuated the remains of the victims to a specialist hospital in Yola.

The state Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the NYSC.
