According to report by The Sun on Sunday, June 6, 2026, Middle Belt Forum (MBF) President Dr. Bitrus Pogu is worried about a number of things that can derail the legitimacy and integrity of the general elections in 2027.
He claims that these problems have cast doubt on the voting process and might provide major obstacles in the days leading up to the election.
Because the stolen system allegedly has extensive information on registered voters across the country, Pogu remarked that the situation surrounding the electoral commission is particularly worrying.
He brought up the point that the commission’s capacity to protect sensitive information necessary for legitimate elections is called into doubt when a security breach occurs involving such vital infrastructure.
The president of the MBF also connected the dots between the instability among various political parties and the worries about being ready for the election.
There is a lot of ambiguity and confusion, he continued, because of the internal conflicts, leadership fights, and ongoing differences between the parties.
As the country approaches 2027, these obstacles, in his view, could affect public faith in the democratic process and make political alignments more complicated.
Pogu, when asked about predictions for the next general election, said that voting patterns in some regions, especially the Middle Belt, might be different from what happened in the 2023 presidential race.
Many voters have reevaluated their stances in light of recent events and reality, he said, and this has led to a shift in political opinion since the last election.
He pointed out that in the 2023 presidential election, the Middle Belt was a stronghold for Peter Obi, a candidate for the Labour Party.
But he did hint that the level of support he had back then might not carry over into the next election.
He claims that word on the street and comments from locals indicate that many are seriously contemplating switching political parties.
According to Pogu, the shifting political climate in the Middle Belt is indicative of the greater unpredictability of the 2027 election.
He elaborated on how people are considering a number of issues before casting future political ballots, and how the situation’s evolution has given rise to divergent viewpoints within communities.
He insisted that these changes are p art of the reason why people are so confused about politics right now.
He said: “The Middle Belt, which came out strongly for Obi in 2023, may not be that strong this time, because lots of Middle Belters feel they would prefer this time to support Mr. President. So, these confusions are there.”
