United Kingdom-based Nigerian, Chibueze Chukwurah, has been remanded in custody following the death of another Nigerian, Taiwo Ekerin, in Lewisham High Street, London.

The UK Metropolitan Police confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday.

Recall that NGGOSSIPS Metro reported that police officers were called to Lewisham High Street at about 4:40 a.m. on May 24 following reports of an altercation.

The police had stated that Ekerin later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on May 30.

The police had also announced that one suspect, 32-year-old Maxwell Oguanaya, was remanded over the incident.

Giving an update on the incident on Tuesday, the Met Police disclosed that Chukwurah was arrested on Friday in connection with the case.

The statement read, “Second man charged with murder following an assault in Lewisham. A second man has been charged with murder after an assault in Lewisham.

“Chibueze Chukwurah, 34 (14.02.1992), of Royston Road, Glasgow, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday, 5 June.

“He was charged on Sunday, 7 June, and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 8 June. He was remanded in custody and will next appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, 10 June.”

NGGOSSIPS Metro reported on Monday that Taiwo’s brother, Kehinde Ekerin, confirmed that he died following an unprovoked assault during a night out.

In a GoFundMe appeal, Ekerin noted that the family was seeking public support to cover funeral expenses.

“It is with profound sadness and heartbreak that we share the passing of our beloved Taiwo Ekerin, who tragically lost his life following an unprovoked attack during a night out.

“Born on 25 December 1984, Ekerin was a much-loved father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He shared a special bond with his twin brother, and his loss has left an unimaginable void in the lives of all who knew and loved him.

“Above all, Taiwo was a devoted father to his daughter, who now faces the future without her dad. He was known for his warmth, kindness, sense of humour and the love he gave so freely to those around him.

“His life was taken far too soon, and our family is struggling to come to terms with this devastating tragedy,” Ekerin stated.
