Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has claimed that efforts were made by members of the ruling party to ensure he lost in his polling unit during the 2023 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Baba-Ahmed said large resources were allegedly deployed at different levels of government to undermine his chances at his polling unit. However, he said he was not worried by the development and instead shifted his focus to Lagos State.

According to him, he concentrated on mobilising voters within the northern community in Lagos, a move he believes significantly boosted support for the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the state.

Baba-Ahmed also alleged that electoral materials were not delivered to some areas considered strongholds of Obi during the election. He argued that the Labour Party would have recorded a much higher number of votes in Lagos if all eligible voters in those areas had been able to cast their ballots.

He maintained that despite the alleged attempts to weaken his influence at his polling unit, the Labour Party was able to make a strong impact in Lagos during the presidential election.

The former senator said his strategy of engaging northern voters in Lagos helped counter what he described as political efforts targeted against him and his party during the election period.

In his words, “Unknown to them, I went to the northern community in Lagos and I did so much damage to them there, so much harm.
